The park is famously known for Lake Manyara itself, a soda lake covering up to 200 square kilometers (though its size varies greatly), once described by Ernest Hemingway as one of Africa’s loveliest. It’s a wonderful home to large flamboyances of pink-hued flamingos filter-feeding through the shallow waters, alongside waterfowl, passerines, and waders in profusion. Large pods of hippopotamus can be seen at the hippo pool viewpoint just a few kilometers from the main entrance gate, while zebras, warthogs, troops of baboons, and buffalo are also present.
